Description

Polytec Diagnostic Report is a tool to diagnose software and hardware issues on Polytec data management systems or systems with Polytec desktop software installed. It allows for collecting information about the PC and software that helps the Polytec service team to diagnose issues efficiently. Polytec will handle this information confidentially and will not use this information for any other purpose. For sending a diagnostic report please follow these steps:

·         Start the Polytec Diagnostic Report software. For full functionality you have to start the software with administrative rights. On Windows Vista or later, right click on the software’s link in the start menu and select Run as administrator from the context menu.

·         Enter a description of the problem you have. The more detailed this description is, the better the service team can help you.

·         Select which information you want to send with the diagnostic report:

-        Collect Acquisition Settings will add files to the report that contain you current measurement settings, if applicable. These might contain information about the shape of your measurement object.

-        Collect Error Reports will add own error reports of the Polytec software and Windows error reports (Dr. Watson Logs) containing information about crashes of any software on your system, not only Polytec software. To capture Windows error reports the used user account needs administrative rights. For technical reasons it is not possible to capture Windows error reports on systems with Windows 7 now.

-        Create Screenshots will add screenshots to the report.

-        Collect Setup Information will add additional information during a setup of Polytec software.

·         Moreover, the report will contain the following information:

-        Filenames and version numbers of files that were installed with Polytec software.

-        Keys and values of parts of the Windows registry used by Polytec software

-        The system information (start MSINFO32.exe for more information about what is contained in system information).

-        Parts of the Windows event logs.

-        Names and version numbers of modules loaded by the Polytec software.

-        Protocols of the communication of Polytec software with Polytec hardware.

·         Start the Polytec software that has an issue using the same user account as Polytec Diagnostic Report and reproduce this issue. If the issue occurs during installation, install the software.

·         Click on Diagnose at a suitable time. If you wish to document a sequence of incorrect states of the software or you want to take multiple screenshots at different points of time click the Diagnose button several times.

·         You can optionally add additional files to the report. Please mention their intention in the problem description.

·         Save the report. It will be saved as a zip compressed, password protected file. If you select a different password than the default Polytec password please inform Polytec about it on a different communication channel. If you run Diagnostic Report with an administrator account, please remember to save the report to a location where the logged-in user has rights to open files if you want to review the collected data afterwards.

·         Send the report to Polytec (software.report@polytec.de). The last saved report will be attached to the e-mail, automatically. If the e-mail could not be sent with the current user account, close Diagnostic Report and start it again with an account with e-mail access. Then click Send Report again and attach the saved report.
